NEW MOON

A part of the teaching explores the idea of a superiority complex—that inflated sense of being better than others—as a form of ego compensation. Arik explains that this kind of mindset doesn’t come from true confidence or self-awareness, but from dishonesty, often with ourselves. When we’re not grounded in who we are, the ego steps in to artificially boost our sense of worth by comparing us to others.

He uses Leo season to highlight this tension because Leo, symbolically connected to the Sun, can express both great love and great pride. It’s a sign of extremes: intense warmth and charisma, but also the potential for arrogance or entitlement if not kept in check. The teaching warns that if we’re not humble, we can fall into that inflated state—and that’s when we become vulnerable to manipulation, self-deception, and imbalance.

The historical reference to “servants manipulating kings” is a metaphor for what happens when leaders (or any of us) lose connection to their inner compass and become dependent on external validation. That’s when flattery or false praise starts to influence decisions—and when power dynamics get distorted.

Rather than overcorrecting by trying to control everything, Arik encourages courage, trust, and humility. The point isn’t to shut down or become small, but to lead with self-awareness, clarity, and intention—especially during the New Moon window, when the opportunity to reset and begin anew is strongest.

He closes this section by differentiating between fate (what happens when we’re passive) and destiny (what unfolds when we’re active, conscious participants). The chaos we experience in life can either disorient us—or become the starting point for deeper alignment, if we’re willing to look for the underlying meaning and respond with integrity.

About the New Moon

The New Moon Meditation helps us to control the outcome of our intentions right from the start. Everything that will manifest is already within the seed, so on the first day of the lunar cycle, we can determine that we want the positive to grow and the negative to be controlled.

On the New Moon, we can begin new projects, ventures, relationships, and actions. If we have something we are already working on, we refresh it, and give it new energy! It is a day when we can receive the energy and wisdom we need, to avoid interruption with manifesting our intentions.

Of course, we can set intentions at any time of the year, but just like banks have business hours, there are operating hours of the cosmos. In the same way we wouldn’t try to withdraw $100,000 when the bank has closed, we need to access the energy needed for the manifestation of our intentions, when it is actually available. 

When we plan around the cosmic hours of operation, we enhance our ability to manifest our intentions and receive the support, service, and all the energy we need to manifest.

The new moon is in a state of emptiness, without any light, ready for us to plant our seed of intention into it.

At its essence, it is like a blank canvas, as well as an art supply store; it supplies us with all the energy, vision, and tools we need to paint our reality. And the new moon presents us with the perfect opportunity to do just that. Whereas when the moon is full, we can reflect on what we have created, and make changes.

Mankind has observed the power of the new moon for thousands of years. It was the first precept God gave to Moses before the exodus from Egypt. This reminds us that in order to get out of, and stay out of, any limitation or slavery, we need to receive support, regularly, and in a timely fashion. In other words, if we want a new reality, we must move into it when the timing is right. The new moon is one of the most powerful connections we can make when we want to break free from our negative karma and limitations.

When we understand that our limitations are imposed by the ego-mind which, for example, judges, manipulates, lies, blames, cheats, steals, and kills to get its way, we may understand why we need support to overcome it. There is no doubt about it, we need support to be able to rise above the intrinsic nature of the ego. We need support from the beginning, and not only when we are in crisis and forced to make changes.

Each and every new moon occurs in one of the twelve signs of the zodiac, which means that each new moon gives us a special energy for our intentions. Because the sign of the new moon defines how our intentions will manifest, it is important that we understand, and study, the essence at the quantum level, where everything, including the outcome, is contained. This way, we can progress in life rather than regress into lives.
